Me in 2015 in my first band at our only band rehearsal….I know my form is horrible, I was the keyboardist then LOL Songs like Kyouran Hey Kids, and in indie groups like Frederic and Polkadot Stingray, bass has it’s chance to shine since guitars take more of a passive role with riffs and extended chords, as opposed to distorted power chords and heavy guitar solos.

However, Japanese music has certainly shown me what amazing things bass can do, and it’s not rare for me to find myself listening and grooving more to the bass than the other instruments. I did try bass temporarily years before ever picking up guitar, but I couldn’t hear it without an amp, and found it confusing when alongside guitars. Thankfully, with Youtubers like Davie504, more people have come to appreciate the instrument, myself included.

You may not notice them when they’re there, but you’ll definitely notice them when they’re gone. THE BASSSSSSSS! Bassists are often neglected and made fun of in a band, but they are one of the most, if not THE most, essential instruments in a group.
